Nonprofit Dreamin Code of Conduct

Code of Conduct

All attendees, speakers, sponsors, organizers, and volunteers at our conference are required to agree with the following code of conduct. Organizers will enforce this code throughout the event. We expect cooperation from all participants to help ensure a safe environment for everybody. If you have any questions or need to flag anything please use the form on our Contact page or reach out to any of the Nonprofit Dreamin organizers listed on that page.

The quick version

Our community conference is dedicated to providing a harassment-free conference experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), or technology choices. We do not tolerate harassment of community members in any form. Sexual language and imagery are not appropriate for any conference venue, including talks, workshops, parties, Twitter and other online media.

Conference participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the conference without a refund at the discretion of the conference organizers.

Our expectations of all of us

  • Treat others respectfully, with kindness and empathy, to foster a safe environment
    – Avoid microaggressions
    – Challenge discriminatory language
    – Seek advice or more information when we are unsure
    – Use self-identified names and pronouns
    – Be accountable – own the impact of our behavior. Accept responsibility to heal damage we have caused even if (especially if) the impact was out of alignment with our intent
  • Be willing to learn from, listen to, and amplify all voices
    – Because every voice is crucial and no contribution is too small
    – Our approaches and decisions to common problems are most effective when informed by diversity and inclusivity
    – We know that great ideas come from many voices
  • Apply the THINK test if I am unsure whether my actions support this Code of Conduct
    – T – is it True?
    – H – is it Helpful?
    – I – is it Inspiring?
    – N – is it Necessary?
    – K – is it Kind?

Do not overwhelm attendees

We kindly ask you to refrain from “spamming” our attendees. Nonprofit Dreamin greatly appreciates the support of our sponsors, who are excited to bring positive attention to their products and services. However, we understand that unsolicited and aggressive advertising can be intrusive and unwelcome. Our conference attracts individuals who are genuinely interested in learning about relevant products and services for their work. Hence, we have a zero-tolerance policy for uninvited advertising messages in chat channels or any other settings.

Both attendees and sponsors are welcome to discuss their products and services in appropriate contexts, when asked direct questions, or during relevant discussions where it is evident that people are actively interested. These conversations should aim to assist the community in making informed decisions that best suit their specific needs.

The determination of what constitutes inappropriate advertising messages rests solely with the organizers. Spam messages in public areas will be promptly removed without prior notice, and attendees who persistently post unwelcome messages may receive warnings or may be asked to leave the conference by the organizers.

To be very clear

Harassment includes, but is not limited to, offensive verbal comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion, technology choices, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention.

Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. We reserve the right to expel participants from the conference with no refund.

If you are being harassed, or notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact one of the Nonprofit Dreamin organizers immediately.

Our sponsors are also subject to the anti-harassment policy. In particular, sponsors should not use sexualized images, activities, or other material. Booth staff (including volunteers) should not use sexualized clothing/uniforms/costumes or otherwise create a sexualized environment.

We would also like to acknowledge the support of London’s Calling and Salesforce.org in drafting this policy – we’re borrowed much of their work in helping manage everyone’s expectation and creating a space where we can all thrive together.

Our Code of Conduct was last updated on June 2023.
